Elementary Computer Science Education: A “Nicety” or a “Necessity?”
Since 2014, Kevin Schamel has served as District eLearning Specialist for Richmond Community Schools in Richmond, IN. Prior to this role, he spent seven years as a 6th grade teacher. He has always had a passion for leveraging technology to extend learning, engage learners, and enhance instruction. For the last few years, Kevin has been captivated by the role that innovation and entrepreneurship can and should play in education by teaching the Innovation and Open Source Learning class at Richmond High School as well as by serving as President of the local chapter of The STARTedUP Foundation. Kevin is also an adjunct instructor for the Miami University Department of Teacher Education, where he helps pre-service and graduate level teachers foster a love of teaching through reflection and collaboration. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Miami University as well as a Master’s Degree from Indiana University.
